Berwyn is a city located in Cook County, Illinois, also the location of the Berwyn Township which was formed in 1901 after breaking off from Cicero Township. As of 2012, the total city population was 56,800. The Berwyn Township Farmers Market is located just two miles east of Riverside, less than four miles south of Oak Park, and about six miles from LaGrange. There are currently over 350 farmers markets in Illinois with over 800 farmers and vendors. According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture Illinois is 3rd in the nation for the number of farmers markets. The mission of the Berwyn Township Farmers Market is to ensure that our community is a place where community members will be able to obtain a variety of fresh and prepared foods while supporting local farmers, small businesses as well as the local economy. The market is seen as an important public space within the community where residents of the city, region, and visitors can mingle. It is envisioned that the market will contribute to the enhancement of the community food system by expanding access to high quality, fresh food and support growers in the region.
